‘SREYA SAMANTA’
Founded by Sreya (Yes Sreya without “h”), a textile designer from NIFT Kolkata for the love of everything handmade.
With a penchant for participating in various competitions all through her childhood, she bagged several awards for her drawings, colouring and even handwriting.
The year 2015 saw her graduating from NIFT with the Best GRADUATION PROJECT AWARD. Soon after which, in the year 2016 she was nationally awarded by the then Textile Minister Smriti Irani in BHU, Benaras for the Indian Handloom Design Contest organised by the Ministry of Textiles.
2017 was a turning point as only a few months into her journey - a journey in promoting slow fashion, working directly with artisans to make her own yarn-dyed and hand-woven fabrics, detailing them with meticulous artistry of Kantha, she was called upon to participate in one of the most prestigious fashion weeks held in India, the AMAZON INDIA FASHION WEEK ,hosted by FDCI and fully sponsored by ELLE.
The ELLE X FDCI FIRST CUT DESIGNER tag gave Sreya the big launch she had been looking for her label, helping her plunge onto the world of fashion, stocking her kantha collections at various prestigious high end stores in
INDIA and ABROAD.
Her believe in her vision of creating simple and minimalistic pieces that withstand the test of time with innovative designs has been her forerunner althrough these years.
